Unclaimed money could include funds from past employers, utility companies, stocks, mutual funds, safe deposit box contents, uncashed checks, insurance policies, and more.<\/p>\n<div class=\"knockout outline default-blue\">\n<h2 class=\"intro lead\"><strong>Follow these steps to search for unclaimed money:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Unclaimed.org<\/a> and scroll down to select your state. Or visit\u00a0the Unclaimed Money directory on <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA.gov<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Follow the instructions to search for unclaimed funds from your state.<\/li>\n<li>If you find a match, complete a claim form. Most states and provinces require a specific form to be completed.<\/li>\n<li>Follow the instructions to complete the specified form. You may need to supply additional documentation for verification.<\/li>\n<li>The claim form and ID are then mailed to the state for review. The state will respond to you directly after they have reviewed your submission and verified that you are the rightful owner.<\/li>\n<li>Most states send you an acknowledgment letter after receiving your claim. Claims processing timelines vary based on claim activity in your state.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"knockout default-blue\">\n<p><strong>HIP TIP<\/strong>: Unclaimed property is reported to the state in which the company or organization resides.
